APILON™ 52 ECO & BIO TPU Compounds

Trinseo’s portfolio of sustainable TPU for fashion & footwear applications includes recycled-content containing (APILON™ 52 ECO) and biobased (APILON™ 52 BIO). These urethane-based thermoplastics (TPE-U or TPU) containing raw materials that are either recycled, either from renewable sources, and offering the same performance as traditional fossil-based TPUs. The grades are developed to provide a lower environmental footprint and similar performance compared to their fossil counterpats.

The family of APILON™ 52 ECO and BIO solutions includes soft and rigid grades (ester, ether, esterether-based) suitable for footwear and fashion applications:

  • Outsoles
  • Fashion accessories
  • Clogs & Flippers
  • Extruded textiles

The APILON™ 52 ECO and BIO are suitable for injection molding, extrusion, coagulation, and calendaring.

MEGOL™ ECO & BIO TPS Compounds

Trinseo’s portfolio of sustainable TPE includes the recycled-content containing MEGOL™ ECO, a TPS suitable for various consumer goods applications, from footwear to appliances. Developed to offer the ideal combination between the elasticity and look and feel of rubber with the excellent soft-touch properties, and low processing costs of thermoplastics.

Our MEGOL™ ECO TPS is designed to meet the same high standards, with a smaller environmental footprint (24% drop in Global Warming Potential for products with 30% recycled content) – low emissions, soft touch, UV and scratch resistance, a large processing window and very durable performance when compared to its fossil counterpart.

ALTUGLAS™ R-Life PMMA resins

ALTUGLAS™ R-Life is a range of sustainable solutions made from a chemical recycling process. Recently developed, acrylic resins are produced with a minimum of 50 percent of recycled Methyl Methacrylate (rMMA) monomer.

ALTUGLAS™ R-Life Resins enable a 26% reduction in Global Warming Potential and provide comparable performance to its all-prime counterparts:

  • Optical quality (high light-transmittance)
  • Highest clarity, colorless: best solution for thick wall applications
  • High weathering and UV resistance (no need of coating)
  • Low weight (50% lighter than glass)
  • Easy to process (injection molding, extrusion)
  • The product has the potential to be recycled multiple times

Trinseo’s recycled-containing PMMA resins are especially suited for applications in consumer goods, household appliances, or lighting.
