Milano Design Week / Exhibitors / ParaStruct
The demand for future-proof manufacturing and materials is increasing, particularly across European markets. In this context, bio-based materials are emerging as high-performance, circular alternatives for interior design and the furniture industry, used as fillers, panels, cast materials, or solid blocks.
ParaStruct, an Austrian start-up based in Innsbruck, has responded to this need by using various plant residues and biogenic waste streams, combined with a low-carbon mineral binder, to develop new materials intended to replace traditional OSB/MDF. In this way, the resulting alternatives can be fully recycled into products of the same or even higher value.Â
The company focuses primarily on engineering material properties, offering ready-to-use dry mixes that can be pressed into bricks, panels, or boards, cast into freeform shapes or used as a gypsum substitute, as well as 3D printed either as standalone elements or directly onto components. As the design, construction, and real estate industries increasingly demand cost-efficient, reliable materials that deliver high quality at low cost, these alternatives offer a new model for enhancing ecological performance.
At The New State of Materials, the company presents bio-based material alternatives per i piani tavolo dei display consoles, alongside samples that highlight the high potential and diversity of optical, haptic, structural, and pattern-based effects that can be achieved. The use of plant residues from agriculture and the timber industry enables a meaningful replacement of traditional fillers and raw materials.
