FREM GROUP–FREM MILANO have been active for over forty years in the pre-shaping of reinforcing steel for the construction sector. Building on this expertise, they developed FREM ARTE – based in Elmas (CA) – which offers artists and architects a fully equipped space supported by skilled craftsmen, and STUDIO FREM – based in Melegnano (Milano) – conceived as an incubator for new ideas where artists and workers collaborate, experiment, and exchange knowledge to create innovative projects. Focused on promoting art and artist residencies, STUDIO FREM fosters a dialogue between creativity and industry, transforming the factory into a dynamic space for interaction between art, design, and production.

Through this integration of art, design, and industry, the group leverages its technical know-how in pre-shaped steel to create unique installations and artworks. Collaborations with architects, designers, and artists further promote steel as a symbol of the connection between creative expression and construction, working with recycled materials and production waste to generate new aesthetic and cultural value. In this context, the reinforcing bar – traditionally seen as a humble, anonymous material – is reinterpreted in artworks, installations, and setups for both public and private spaces, often conceived for urban furniture. 

For The New State of Materials, FREM GROUP–FREM MILANO, taking advantage of its knowledge in reinforcing steel bars, has created the supports for the perimetral display tables, once again demonstrating how raw, unrefined steel can be transformed into elegant, fluid forms, where sustainability and innovation meet.
