Leathers have recently become extremely controversial for several reasons: ethical considerations, concerns about the impacts of heavy metals and PFAS, association with an overall high GWP and many more. The market for leather substitutes is therefore witnessing a significant shift towards innovative and more sustainable materials. Alternative, leather-like materials, traditionally oil-based, are now partly or totally crafted from a diverse array of sources such as agricultural waste, plants, fungi, and bacteria; feature a lower carbon footprint; and often align with the principles of a circular economy.
Join our free webinar and discover trends, future scenarios and directions for leather alternative materials.
