Papel (“paper” in Spanish) is a collection of loom-woven paper yarn rugs. Paper is a natural and sustainable material, easy to clean, similar to rattan but much softer; unlike other traditional materials, it allows to create original, neat and graphic patterns.
Paper comes from abundant and renewable sources and can be recycled up to 7 times in standard recycling streams. In fact, paper is one of the most recycled materials worldwide.
The rugs in the Papel collection are made with FSC® and PEFC® certified paper yarns, that is, coming from forests that are sustainably managed and that contribute to forest maintenance and regeneration.
The same dyes used for colouring the yarns meet the requirements of the EU regulation on chemical products (Reach) and are respectful of the environment and people’s health.

n 2006, Daniele Morabito founded Karpeta in Reggio Calabria, in the southernmost point of Italy. Inspired by his father – an antique collector – who on his travels would return home with antiques and precious objects from distant places. Daniele traveled the ancient caravan routes and developed a great appreciation for decorative objects and the stories they told. From this passion he started to make textile works for handmade rugs, which then he saw as a bridge between tradition and modernity.
