Solid Surface is a type of high-end composite, made of acrylic resin and mineral fillers. It is very durable and hygienic, widespread for making tops, sinks, bathtubs and shower trays. Although not harmful to the environment, it is recycled only in small percentages by the same production industry; in fact, it is pulverized and reintroduced at 10 – 30 % in production. In the EU project LIFE21-ENV-IT-LIFE GREEN COMPOSITE, the partner Delta srl (Plados Telma group) transforms its industrial solid surface waste into R-granulates; a high-quality secondary raw material, of various colors and grain sizes, with which Gees Recycling creates the GREEN No. 1 worktops (D 1250 kg/m3). These new composites use up to 94% of secondary raw material (70% R-granulates) maximizing the recycling levels of Solid Surfaces.
